SPOT is a free community based online platform that lists accessible places across the Maltese islands. At its core SPOT is a directory of all possible services and related venues and is designed to be accessible to everyone. SPOT enables users to browse and filter this information freely. It also lets registered users add new venues and add reviews about the venues they visit. This helps put users in charge by enabling you to share the most up to date information. You can verify or contribute information about a venue’s service quality and if applicable the accessibility for persons with disability.
We are constantly adding new resources to the database but we also rely on your contributing new information. Who is Behind SPOT.org.mt?
The Foundation for Information Technology Accessibility (FITA) through collaboration of the Vodafone Malta Foundation, created SPOT in order to help it address a recurrent dilemma faced by disabled persons wishing to travel around the Maltese islands. The project also receives the contribution of the OPM (Financial Services and Identity) which among other things helped cater for support of the Maltese language.
The challenge we are addressing through SPOT, is that although the number of acessible venues and services is increasing, information is not readily available in one place, not all websites are yet accessible and efforts for greater accessibility were not promoted enough. The project partners, were joined by the Malta Tourism Authority, the Commission for the Rights of Persons with Disability, Heritage Malta and the Local Councils association, who backed the SPOT project, so as to bring this information to everyone who needs it.
